The Tied Interview

This week we have spoke to The Tied a four piece indie band from Maidstone, Kent. They haven't been going long and were lucky enough to grab them for a chat. From hearing there first E.P 'Jessica' I can see them doing well at the festivals.

Hi lads cheers for doing this, for people who don't know who you are yet can you introduce yourself and what you do in the band?
Roy Manuell (Vocals, Guitar)
Andy Robinson (Lead Guitar)
Adam Waller-Davies (Bass)
Jamie Pooley (Drums)

You got together Mid 2011? Did you feel that you could bring something new to the music scene?

There are a lot of good guitar bands around but most of them are a few years old. We (like to) think we're new, a unique mix of old rock and indie guitar music. We may be a bit different but we in our spare time we liste to Arctic Monkeys, The Maccabees, The Strokes, Bloc Party etc.

I really like that some of your tunes breakdown with a little guitar solo, brings a energy to the record. What are your live shows like?

Come and see us! We've had great feedback so far..fast, lively and loud for sure.

Will you be playing many festival this year? Where can people catch you?

we hope to be gigging a lot in summer - mostly in July & August. Festivals we'd love to play at but first and foremostit's just about getting our music out there for organisers and event runners to hear! Any event we're playing will be on our facebook page, and we'll be launching our website soon, which will have Tour Dates on it as well.

The new E.P Jessica is really good nice to hear a straight up indie band doing it well. Has it taken long to get together?

Not at all - we wrote the songs and practiced them over a short period of time, maybe 3 weeks? Then we recorded them - the're not 100% finished, we'd like to re-work them and re-record them in the future, but we're really happy with everything so far..as we mentioned - we just wanted to get inthe recording studio and get our sound out.

This is 'Take Note' off there E.P Jessica.

Who is Jessica? Is the E.P wrote about things which have happened to you?

That's a hard one. Most of the songs on the EP have an element of teenage ife, and young love's a part of that i suppose. As to who she is - we literally picked a girls name - no meaing whatsoever. The upcoming album will have amore of a mix though - slightly more political in some, others about childhood and other themes.

When will be expecting an Album as on your page says you have been writing them already?

Yes, when time allows. We're really excited about a song we've written called 'Young Renegades'. That'll probably be Track 1 on the album - open with a big number. As to a name - we've got a few ideas, but we'll keep our cards firlmy clasped to our chests on that one...

Finally The Tied where did the name come from? Everyone always wants to know?
It wasn't us - a good friend suggested it, and it stuck. We like it - kinda rolls off the tongue, but we hope that whatever our name was people would concentrate on our music.

Cheers for you time lads and hope you have a great year.
