The Miracals Interview

The Miracals are a sunny indie pop band for California, their brilliant catchy song-writing skills will have you hooked. There sound just makes you want to smile and go to the beach, can see them being my band for the summer.

Hi guys, you are pretty new to me, who plays what in the band? It sounds like you have two lead singers?

We do have two singers, I'm (John) a singer, and Will sings. On our last record, our permanent temporary member, Mike, also sings. I play guitar, Will plays bass, Mike plays guitar, and Echo plays the drums.

On your Facebook page it says you use to be The Smiles, Why did you have to change your name? And why to The Miracals?

We were once The Smiles, but haters gon' hate, and someone threatened to sue us if we didn't change our name. Bummer. We changed it to The Miracals after a long process with a lot of name options, The Miracals fit best with what we had in mind for our music.

I love your sound its such a sunny sound very beach boys, are they an influence of yours? What kind of bands did you listen to growing up?

The Beach Boys have been one of my favorite bands for a while, and I think they influence our music, but in a way that is not obvious to me. We usually get the comparison, but I never sit down and write a song to sound like the beach boys. Maybe it's one of those things where someone tells you that you have the same mannerisms as your father or mother, and you don't see it, but everyone else can.

I would love to listen to your music cruising round the beaches of California. Both of your E.P's are so bright and sunny would be great at a festival. Are you playing any festivals this year? Where can people see you?

I'm glad you'd take our music along with you to the beach, that's great. Playing a festival would be swell, but we're not that popular, so nothing is planned for us in that area. We're starting to play a lot of local shows, so if people want to catch us, Los Angeles is your best bet.

The Video to 'FRNZ' is great with Mario Karting in the middle, was this your idea? or is this a plan to try and get on Mario's next ad campaign? As it works so well haha

Of course the Mario Kart video was our idea! I actually had the idea to just have a Mario Kart race the whole time, then an hour or so later, came up with the side panel idea with Will and I dancing. It was too bad Echo wasn't around, he was at SXSW at the time, so maybe I don't feel that bad. Will did a great job putting the video together. I think we'd all love to be a part of any Mario ad campaign, that would be the pinnacle of my career, I'm sure.

On your Facebook page you can download both of your E.P's for free, why are you giving both away most bands will make it just a track?

Right now we want fans, you can't be a band without fans, and we want to treat our fans well. They are most important. There is so much music out there, it's also a way of saying thanks for checking us out, giving us a chance.

Finally what can we expect from you this year?

We actually have quite a plan ahead of us, we have a sweet music video for our song "Pretend" coming out in the next couple of days, today is the 3rd of April, so this answer might be dated; we have a live EP we recorded, called "Blue," that will be released in the next month or so, and we are planning to make an album. Hopefully we'll get a single out in July or August.

Thanks for the time and E.P's lads cant stop listening to them.

Thanks for the questions, have a good one.
