Urban Cone Interview

Urban Cone are a fantastic young Indie/Electro/Rock band from Sweden. Concentrating on a great live indie sound which you could hear in a club and it wouldn't feel out of place. Sweden is great for musicians with the likes of Miike Snow, Lykke Li and The Tallest Man on Earth. They are set for big things and have just been taken on by tour promoter Luger with their first international gig in Canada for the Telus Snowboard and Skiing Festival. Hopefully their music will spread even more and we shall be able to see them all over the world soon.

Hi Urban Cone, we're based in England and haven't really heard much about you guys yet, can you just introduce yourselves and what your role in the band is?

We are a bunch of "stockholmers" that started up a band about two years ago.
Rasmus Flyckt - Lead singer, lead keyboard.
Magnus Folkö - Drums
Tim Formgren - Guitar
Emil Gustafsson - Lead singer and bass
Jacob William Sjöberg - Piano

I understand you're quite young? How did you meet and when did you decide you wanted to form this band?
We are all in our early twenties, and met in school, a kind of music highschool. We soon realized that we shared the same ambitions and the same taste in music. So it felt naturally to start a band.
The song 'Freak' was the first I heard from you, it builds up great, this must be fun to perform? What are your live shows like? I could see it being like DJ set, a lot of dancing but with more of a bands energy on stage?
Freak is a wonderful live song, so fun to do on stage.
Our live shows are very intense with alot of light effects and smoke. We always try to do everything live and its very important for us to sound like a band live, and not like a electro type of band with alot of pads that has programmed sounds. But exactly, alot of dancing and alot of energy. Something that people hopefully will remember!
On your SoundCloud page you have put up all the parts of your songs for people to remix. If you could choose a producer to remix your tracks who would it be?
Hmm, tricky question. There are so many wonderful producers in the world, but if we had to pick anyone it would definitely be Gaspard and Xavier from Justice. Would be totally epic.
When I put up 'Freak' as my song of the day I came across the video of you guys playing 'We Should Go To France' live. It was filmed on maybe an Iphone or something and it sounds perfect. I would love to see you guys live, any plans on coming to England? Where can people catch you this year?
Thanks! Currently there isn't any England gigs booked. But it would be so much fun going there sometime soon! Hopefully this autumn. Next week we are visiting Whistler, Canada for a show at the Telus snowboard and ski festival and hopefully some skiing. Otherwise we are mostly playing at festivals in Sweden and Dockville in Hamburg, Germany. Hopefully we're visiting some other countries in europe towards the autumn and will in that case announce that at our Facebook page.
So you have your 3rd or 4th single coming out at the end of this month and an E.P 'Our Youth pt.2'? Will we be seeing an album this year? or next?
Our third single actually! But yes, Kings & Queens and Our Youth pt2 will be released later this month. We are actually working on our first album right now. But can't really give you any more info right now since its not set in stone.
I always like to ask where the name came from as some bands pick them randomly and others have a great story about them, where did you guys get the idea to be called Urban Cone?
Urban Cone was actually just one of those, yeah-thats-a-cool-name-lets-go-with-it kind of moments. But we've grown into it!
I understand you guys must be really busy at the moment with the single and E.P and we really appreciate the time. Hope you have a great year and keep up the good work.
