Stillwater Giants Interview

Ok guys when we first landed in Perth we started becoming regulars at a little venue called The Bird. After chatting to a lot of the Locals they told us to check these guys out, that week they turned out to be playing there to raise some funds for there Australia tour. We had been seeing 3 or 4 bands a night in Perth and was thinking all these bands are great but these guys stepped up the game, extremely professional and incredibly entertaining. So after seeing them live we decided to grab them for an interview. We spoke to Henry lead vocals and guitar about the past, the future and the bodyboarding crowd surfing.
So lets start at the beginning how did it all start?

Angus and I were introduced to each other by Tom's sister. Angus and I started jamming and mucking around for a while and when we were down south we met up with Tom. It wasn't long until Kyle came along and joined us on bass to complete the SWG family

Have you been playing long, who's playing what in the band?

I guess we formally started gigging around the middle of 2010. I sing and play guitar, Tom's does most of the shredding on the lead guitar, Kyle's on bass and Angus plays drums. Tom and Kyle also add backup vocals.... and like to whack shit (e.g. floor toms, cow bells...etc).

What kind of music do you listen when its not your own? Any bands you really getting in to at the minute?

Yeah its fairly mixed. I know Kyle really likes Taylor Swift's new single. I personally can't go past Radiohead, Muse or Coldplay, as well as some heavier stuff like Sevendust. Love The Medics and Tame Impala too :)

Locally, we are into Rainy Day Women, only cos their guitarist, Ross, has a smokin' hot sister.

It has been many round Perth right? You must be so excited about the tour?

Excitement factor is huuuuuuge! We are frothin' to play over east!

Your gig when i first saw you at The Bird, it was a great gig is this how most of them go? Will you be trying to step it up on the tour?

Definitely. We want people to remember our shows and our music. We also just want to have fun in the process.

Please try and avoid crowd surfing on your tour with a body board haha, Can you explain what, why and did anyone get hurt in that video?

Haha!! Yeah at our EP Launch in October, a few of my mates we lurking side of stage when they gave me a look of ''i know what to do with this bodyboard!!". During the middle of the song they both ran out and took turns in crowd surfing with the board - one went well and one didn't. There are photos and videos of it all on our Facebook page.

Your video for 'Not Like The Others' is a great video, did you guys come up with the idea how involved do you get?

Yeah one night we all sat down with film producer Tay Kaka (Moonclad Kid) and brainstormed numerous ideas. We had a fairly small time frame to complete it, so once the ideas were collated we got a mates old blue Ford E58, drove around and performed some academy-award winning performances.

Tell us about 2013, whats the plan? Anything exciting you can let us know?

Well I think we are definitely going back over to play in Melbourne in February so we may work in a few more over east dates with that. We also plan to started recording our first album!! Tom and I may also change our names to Luigi and Baby Mario respectively.

And finally everyone always wants to know where bands names come from, so how about you guys?

If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Not heard enough yet? I should expect not check them on there Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
