Condors Interview

Condors are a band from the UK shores only one E.P in and looking promising. Their latest track 'Fearling' was sent to us by a friend and really shows a modern progestion for the band. The Pychedelic sound is going mad at the minute with Tame Impala smashing it, send these guys to your friends and be the first to notice the quilty.

Hello Condors, how you doing?

We are all good thanks.

We were recently sent the single 'Fearling' from a friend but other than that we don't know much about you. So let’s start at the beginning how do you guys know each other? How did the Condors start?
We met at the University of Surrey in September 2011. George the lead guitarist also at Surrey Uni joined the band a few months later. Now we all live together in Guildford

The song is great and the video is brilliant!! What's the tune about? Did you guys come up with the idea for the video?

The tune is about 2 people’s imperfections that ultimately form an attraction and bond between each other - if that makes any sense.

As a band we jammed the idea with our friends Richard Barr and Tom Brown-Lowe and came up with an idea, centred on some contemporary dancers. The dancers in the video are good friends of ours and study at Surrey Uni. The video was produced by Richard Barr.

Castle Garden is a great E.P was this your debut?

It was our debut as a full band. Previously we were doing something completely different but it all fell into place last summer when we wrote and recorded Castle Garden in 4 days.

You describe yourself as Alternative Psychedelic right? Why do you think that a lot of bands are going down the Psychedelic path these days, why did you?

I think a lot of new bands are doing different things with 'Psychedelic music'. From Tame Impala who's production value is heavily influenced by the genre to Ty Segall who smashes out weird and wonderfully written lo-fi tunes. I don't think this Psych 'revival' or whatever, is as drug orientated or socially reflective as the 60's and 70's, but more down to writing songs with interesting structures, chords progressions, pianos sounding like guitars/ guitars like pianos. That old quote hahaha anyway that’s just my opinion.

For us, we really enjoy recording and creating a vibe on stage. Most of our biggest influences are Psychedelic bands. We enjoy trying to come up with alternatives ways of doing things, recording, writing music videos e.t.c

Recording your tunes must get a bit tiresome after a while, listening to the same tune over and over, what else do you listen to when you’re not recording and practising?

To be fair all the credit for recoding and producing ‘Fearling’ and the rest of our new EP goes to Harry Lightfoot. He's the one who has listened to the tracks over and over again.

Pete our drummer also known as Thology in the Bass music world, listens to lots of weird and wonderful electronic music as electronic music production is his thing - and he is shit hot

Jonjo and I will pretty much only listen to guitar music with the exception of some Hip hop and George listens to pretty much everything. Martin much the same as George.

Your E.P has a great energy about it what are your live shows like?

We try and make the live shows as intense as possible at certain points in the set then contrast it with more spaced out parts.

When can people see you next?

Saturday 4th of May at the Rattlesnake, Angel, London

What are you hoping for the band in the next couple of years? When will there be an album?

We are hoping to get this EP we are working on finished by the summer, play lots of shows then an album to come next year.

Condors, where did the name come from?

Peru

Cheers for the time lads, hope to see and hear more from you soon.
